Jake and Bathsheba

A blog by two cats who used to live in the same house in Northern Virginia. Unfortunately, they are both no longer with us.

Not Too Old to Be Playful

Hi! Here I was getting comfortable on my bed in the computer/cat room when Mom decided to take my picture. Look how I've made the formerly white bedspread into my own by putting my grey fur all over it.

I know I'm an old kitty and some people think I'm dull and boring, but something about that camera strap brought out the kitten in me.

Perhaps I wanted to cheer Mom up because she's been down in the dumps lately.

See, this old girl can still be playful and kill that evil camera strap.

Mom was very touched by all the heartwarming comments everyone left about Jake. She is going to try very hard to visit everyone and personally thank them for their support during this difficult time. She still thinks of Jake often. This afternoon when she was working in the garden (in the COLD), she almost imagined seeing Jake near her. More time will help her to heal. This is the final photo she took of Jake, on his last morning with us. (The heart in the corner is SO appropriate!) Oh, no, the tears are streaming down her cheeks again. I will have to let her pet me some more . . . .

Oh, bless your mom's heart. Losing a kidlet is very hard. I know that when we got this house and my mom spent about a month fixing it up before we actually moved in, on a few occasions she'd see my old sister Sophie just out of the corner of her eye, and Sophie had left for the Bridge about four months before that. So I think Sophie is still close by us, just like Jake is still near your mom and you.

And I think it's your right to turn the bedspread to your own color. That way you can eventually be invisible on it!

You are very cute with that camera strap. Now and again Georgia gets all excited about something and it makes the woman laugh.

Our purrs for you and your Momma about Jake. It is hard. I have no doubt he was out there in the yard keeping an eye on her...

You look very comfy on the bedspread, Bathsheba. I'm glad your playing with the camera strap cheered your Mom up a little. I am also glad that you like my tribute to Jake. He was a wonderful cat and I am sure that he was watching over your Mom in the garden.

Hello Bathsheba, it's good to see you again. You are doing a good job of playing with the camera strap and cheering your mum up. When mum has had a kitty who has had to go to The Bridge, she has often thought she caught a glimpse of them or heard them after they had gone. She truly doesn't think it is imagination, she thinks they come back to make sure you are all right and to let you know they are all right too.
The tears are natural, let them come. They will help heal the hurt of Jake leaving.

Hello there, Bathsheba. We are so sorry to hear about the loss of your brother. It is extremely hard when someone loses a member of their family and your mom will need a lot of time to heal. She may be always seeing Jake out of the corner of her eye. After the PM lost her first cat, she thought she could actually feel him jump up on her bed and hear him call . We agree with Eric and Flynn, it is probably him just coming back to make sure everything is OK and to let you know he is OK.

Nice to see you playing. :0)

Hi Bathsheba, it is nice to hear from you. I am glad you are looking after your mum at this difficult time. Make sure you do lots of purring, floofy headbutting and hair shedding on her, she will really appreciate it.

It's good to see a mature cat having fun. It's a lovely, though sad picture of Jake. We hope you get by and can comfort each other.

Mommy got your lovely card yesterday. She says that you'll see Jake more than you expect. Kitties who are loved as much as he is will hang around to make sure their humans are going to be OK.
Smoochies!

Camera straps will always bring out a little friskification! Gosh, I've been trying to get the Woman to get her act together and write your mom a long letter but she is totally useless. Waiting on law schools is just killing her and she basically can work and obsess and then forgets to do the important things in life. We know there is no excuse for her however you are all in our thoughts daily.

love,
Chase

It takes a loooong time to heal, it takes a long time to grieve. Do not rush.
WE still miss Caesar and it has been over a year. We have lots of photos in strategic locations that help mom. I have one in my kitty room so I can see my brother.
We have been praying for all of you

Now you made our maid's eyes leak again..... She still has other pictures in front of the picture of Anastasia at her desk and only once in a while looks at it. And almost always cries. And it is 1 year and 7 month now. She cries about Edgar too but Anastasia was special....
We are glad you are playing! I will be 10 years in April but once in a while my inner kitten comes out too, hohohohohohohoho!
Purrs to your Mom.
