Fickle March

March sure is a changeable month. Just last week I wanted to step outside onto the deck and this is what was out there! My pawprints makes it look like I have a lots of extra toes, but it's only one extra on each paw.
Mom was happy that she finally got to use her cross country skis--first time this season! She doesn't get too many chances around here.

Then spring came! It was in the 70s this past weekend. Here I am in the flower bed with some crocus. I would have posed better had Mom brought some treats outside with her. Last year Jake posed only because she bribed him with treats.

I think that I can go for a nice afternoon snooze in the sunshine.

A Little Bit of SNOW!

A few days ago we had our first snowfall of the season. It was only about two inches or less.

I HAD to go out in it after my dinner.

I think that I'm going to venture off my deck and go play.

I'm off to explore the jungle in winter!
I only stayed outside about a half hour, but later that night, about 3:30 a.m., I started my "scratching on the bedroom full length mirror" routine. That's usually my signal to Mom that I want to go outside or have my breakfast. Mom yelled at me for about 30 minutes to go back to sleep, but I was persistent. Because she knows that I sometimes punish her by doing something "inappropriately" in the house, she decided to get up and let me out despite the cold. I got to stay out for several hours until breakfast! I love my freedom and my fur coat kept me warm.

Snow in April!

Yesterday morning we had snow! This is very unusual for Virginia. And it was a big surprise for the flowers, though it didn't seem to harm them. The snow was mostly all melted by afternoon, but it remained cold outside.

Big Man Cats with thick man cat fur don't mind walking in the cold snow.

Tulips look yummy with snow frosting on top,

but I prefer the yummy chilled grass--a delicacy!

Biggify this picture and you can notice the snow on my neck that dropped from the forsythia bush above. I shook myself just after my photographer snapped this shot.

Even though I enjoy snow, I'm ready for spring and warm sunshine to return.

~Jake

P.S. Mom's way behind in helping us blog and visit our friends, but at least she completed her taxes this weekend! She has to work very late for the next three nights so we won't get to see her much. At least Dad is home to care for us.

Change of Seasons

Yesterday's high temperature was 77 degrees. Today it was rainy and cold, then late in the afternoon the rain changed to snow! It was even sticking on the roads as Mom drove home from work.

Mom took a few quick photos of her flowers before it got dark. She says that if it's going to get cold, it might as well snow because the snow blankets the flowers and keeps them warmer!

I went outside to do my regular business earlier tonight and, when Dad let me in, I was covered with snowflakes. Mom got the camera out quick, but just as the autofocus was doing its thing, I shook to rid myself of the rapidly melting snowflakes. Poor Mom. She was so disappointed because she said that I looked really cool. Well, duh, I was really cool--cold, in fact. And wet! I don't mind the snow too much, but I don't like to be wet.
The snow has totally covered our yard, but the streets and sidewalks are clear, and it's no longer snowing. Come back, Spring!
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

A Dusting of Snow

Brrr. It's been bitter cold lately, and last night we got a little snow. It was barely a dusting, but the schools around here closed anyway. You cats from the north may not understand this, but in the Washington, D.C. area, the joke is that schools close when there's a flake of snow. Like last week, Mom tried to get a photo of me in the snow, but I had already done my business before she came after me with her camera. She had to content herself with taking a picture of my pawprints. Once again, her camera has the wrong date, because she took the pictures TODAY.

It was much more comfortable to just look at the white fluff from the back of the chair in the living room.

Mom is disappointed that there isn't enough snow for cross country skiing in the battlefield park. It was warm for so long this winter, and now when it's finally cold, the air is too dry to produce much snow. Whenever there's too much snow, I don't like to leave my deck, and I do my business by spraying the grill cover. Dad doesn't like that!

I'm still looking for my special Valentine. We're having computer problems at home so Mom is using one elsewhere just for now. That probably means that I won't be able to post a Valentine in the contest by tomorrow evening. Some nice lady cats indicated some interest in me! DaisyMae Maus seemed to flirt with me, but I think she prefers Rocky. She is about the right age, though.

Stay warm, you cute kitties.

Love,

~Jake

P.S. Today was our Grandpa's birthday. He died nearly 10 years ago, but we all still miss him. He really loved kitties, especially his Siamese cat Marcellus followed by Toby, another Siamese. We're thinking of you, Grandpa.

UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE!

Beautiful spicy vixen DaisyMae is my Valentine! I am the luckiest cat! Maybe I can escape the cold by teleporting over to San Diego!

~Jake

No, I am the luckiest! Bubbles picked me! And he produced the greatest Valentine video. It was both funny and romantic. I was embarrassed by the hula costume when Mom dressed me in it for Halloween, but Bubbles must have liked it.
